KINGSTON, Jamaica – The eighth race on Saturday, April 22, 2023, is a three-year-old maiden call in which nine horses have been entered. The distance is five furlongs round.

The Quick Galloper’s assessment of the eight entered is provided below.

– EPIC is a bay filly (March 21) by Casual Trick out of Global trained by Edward Stanberry with Paul Francis in the saddle. This first-timer has  not done enough in the mornings to give her any consideration of winning.

– SUGAR SUGAR is a chestnut filly (March 22) by Berlino Di Tiger out of Misty trained by Michael Marlowe with Anthony Thomas aboard. Getting better after four starts, and will play a part in the final outcome, but it will be a minor one.

– HAIL DE ADMIRAL is a bay filly (January 29) by Admiral Alex out of Hail De Cat trained by Carl Anderson with Ramon Nepare aboard. Unplaced in her one effort to date, Hail De Admiral is still considered by many to be of some ability. Will have to show vast improvement to handle these. Note, Hail De Admiral races with the blinkers off and also the tongue tie.

– JAMES is a bay colt (March 28) by Sensational Slam out of Crown Princess trained by Spencer Chung with Omar Walker in the saddle. Railbirds say James is of much worth and has been well-prepared for his start in competitive racing. Given this assessment, James is expected to be in the thick of things the first time out. Note, James races with first-time Lasix and with the blinkers on.

– SLAM DUNK is a bay colt (March 9) by Sensational Slam out of Akela trained by Gary Subratie with Dane Dawkins in the saddle. Had the discomfort of passing the post in front 13 days ago and subsequently disqualified and placed second behind Eazy Peazy. Then Slam Dunk raced over six furlongs, was close to the pace, and finished strongly. He is going to be hard to deny.

– TOKILLAMOCKINGBIRD is a bay colt (March 6) by Lion Tamer out of Newton’s First Law trained by Marlon Anderson with Abigail Able aboard. This colt is not a serious contender.

– CRUZINN AGAIN is a chestnut colt (April 24) by Soul Warrior out of Primetime trained by Collin Blair with Aaron Chatrie aboard. Will learn.

– MR. FETE is a chestnut colt (April 9) by Bold Conquest out of Come Dance With Me trained by Anthony Nunes with Romario Spencer aboard. Has been around in his three outings to date. Always seems to find one or two better in his races, but on Saturday, Mr Fete cannot be denied the chance of winning.

– BLINKIN LIGHT is a bay colt (April 12) by Patton Proud out of Storm Girl trained by Gary Griffiths with Oshane Nugent aboard. Made a noticeable debut 14 days ago. Blinkin Light will deliver another good run but not a winning one. Note, Blinkin Light races with the figure 8 on.
