Long time racing writer Orville Clarke dies

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Orville Clarke, who for close to 40 years was the main racing reporter for the Gleaner Company died yesterday (Saturday, June 26). He was 73 years-old.

Clarke is best remembered for his regular racing reports and previews and he was also a many times winner of the newspaper’s tipsters’ competition.

His activities at the Gleaner were not limited to horse racing. His knowledge of the film industry was deep and many times Orville could be heard giving out detailed information of movies without even the bat of an eyelid. He was also the author of many movie reviews for the Gleaner
