KINGSTON, Jamaica - After nearly two years without a victory, Lion Talk finally secured a triumphant win, leading the competition with a commanding performance over the 5-furlong straight course.
Trained by Ryan Williams, Lion Talk was successful in a native-bred five-year-old and upwards (non-winners of two) and imported five-year-olds and upwards (maidens) categories.
With jockey Phillip Parchment at the helm, Lion Talk initially shared the lead with rivals Matriarch (Jordan Barrett) and Dotlin (Natalie Berger).
As they crossed the dummy rails, Lion Talk and Dotlin pulled away from the rest, engaging in a fierce duel.
In the final stages of the race, Lion Talk found another gear, surging ahead to secure a 2¼-length victory over Mule Train (Reyan Lewis). Matriarch came in third place, with a final time of 1:05.2 (23.4 x 49.3).
