After being named champion two-year-old last season, Anthony Nunes-trained Legit Boss was anticipated to compete in this year's Classic series of races but failed to deliver.

Due to her underwhelming performances leading up to the Classics, Legit Boss never entered any of the Triple Crown races. She raced through her conditions without success.

On Saturday, December 9, 2023, Legit Boss effortlessly outpaced rivals in the War Zone Sprint Trophy feature, potentially signaling a new chapter in her career. Over 5 ½ furlongs (1,100m),

Legit Boss and jockey Raddesh Roman made one decisive move to beat competitors by a length and a half in a final time of 1:07.2. Awesome Anthony (Javaniel Patterson) finished second, followed by Sensational Move (Dane Dawkins).

"It's always great to win, but it's especially gratifying to win for the owner," Nunes said in his post-race interview.

"She hasn't reached where we thought she would, and we're grateful that the owner has given us more time with her," Nunes continued. "Legit Boss didn't progress as a three-year-old; she struggled with the summer heat and other factors. She didn't mature like we expected from a two-year-old to a three-year-old."

"She's a sprinter, and that's just how it is. We'll see how far sprinting will take her. She'll have to compete with sprinters and move up in grade; we'll see how she handles it," Nunes added.
