KINGSTON, Jamaica - Neglected at odds of 19-1, the Patrick Lynch-owned and trained Legal Bomb upset his more fancied rivals in a native-bred four-year-old and upwards (non-winners for three) and also imported four-year-olds and upwards (non-winners of two) travelling 5 ½ furlongs on Saturday, August 7, 2023.
Legal Bomb was unable to go with the early pacesetters as he was held in fifth position behind Xceptional Babz (Dane Dawkins), Gracefully Made (Raddesh Roman), She’s Fantastic (Paul Francis), and Noble Impulse (Matthew Bennett) going into the half-mile turn.
Legal Bomb was still off the front end entering the lane as Xceptional Babz continued to blaze the trail, but when all seemed lost for the four-year-old chestnut colt, jockey Ramon Nepare produced his mount for an effort and Legal Bomb got up in time for the win.
Legal Bomb beat Xceptional Babz by a short head on the wire. Airstream (Reyan Lewis) was third with the final time recorded at 1:09.2 (23.1 x 47.2).
