KINGSTON, Jamaica – The upset odds are getting longer as after victory in the first race by Polly B at 8-1 it was the turn of Band of Gold in the second at 12-1.
Band of Gold with two furlongs left in the 6 ½ furlong contest for five-year-olds and upwards non-winners of four was in fifth place in the seven horse field, way behind the leaders Outrageous Taj – the 1-2 favourite ridden by Tevin Foster and Miss Elaine with Phillip Parchment aboard at odds of 9-5.
As the race panned out, early leader Miss Elaine was overtaken at the top of the stretch drive by Outrageous Taj. The two were then locked in combat as Miss Elaine refused to give up.
With the wire fast approaching, from out of the clouds came apprentice Youville Pinnock on Band of Gold to get the win by half-a-length.
Outrageous Taj was second a neck in front of Miss Elaine.
