KINGSTON, Jamaica – Traditionally, the Jamaica Oaks race day is one for celebrating ladies and this year was no exception.

On the Jamaica Oaks 2023 race day, three races were named in honor of three outstanding female trainers – Margaret Parchment, Beverly Rhoden, and Emma Chen – who at one time all trained thoroughbreds at Caymanas Park.

The first of these races was the Emma Chen Memorial Trophy (race six of ten) held on Saturday, August 5, 2023.

This race featured four-year-old and upwards non-winners of three over the seven-furlong course.

She's My Friend, ridden by Reyan Lewis and trained by Jason DaCosta, secured victory by holding off the late charges of Monsieur Blue (Tevin Foster) and The Exodus (Dane Dawkins). She's My Friend completed the race in a time of 1:30.0 with splits of 24.1 x 47.2 x 1:14.0.

The eighth race was the Margaret Parchment Trophy, restricted to three-year-old fillies yet to win two races and contested over six furlongs.

Mrs. Lyndhurst, a three-year-old chestnut filly, put on a memorable display as she claimed victory.

Champion jockey Dane Dawkins guided her for trainer Steven Todd, with the pair taking control from the start. Despite facing challenges from various competitors throughout the race, Mrs. Lyndhurst maintained her lead and prevailed in the final furlong with a time of 1:16.1 and splits of 23.2 x 49.0.

The winner finished 1¾ lengths ahead of second-place Wayne's Princess followed by The Love Of God in third.

The Beverly Rhoden Memorial Cup concluded the eventful day; this was a 5½-furlong race exclusively for three-year-old maiden fillies.

Hot Stepper, trained by Anthony Nunes, delivered a tenacious performance resulting in a 2¾-length victory;

Tevin Foster was the winning jockey. Lady Ramdularie (Jerome Innis) finished second with Tuts (Dane Dawkins) placing third. The winning time came in at 1:10.2 with splits of 24.0 x 49.0.

  1. Why wasn't Mrs. CLIGGOTT recognised too along with the other ladies with licences. Just asking.
