KINGSTON, Jamaica – After two odds-favourites winning the first two races on the Easter Monday card, it was time for an upset and that came in the form of Kunda Man at odds of 39-1 in the third but not after a lengthy stewards’ inquiry and jockey’s objection.
Racing in a maiden condition event for four-year-old and upwards horses at six furlongs, Kunda Man stayed with the early pace and was well placed when entering the lane for the final two furlongs.
In the stretch run, Kunda Man ridden by Aaron Chatrie for trainer | owner Dale Murphy took over as jockey Omar Walker brought 9-5 Conundrum with a closing effort on the outside.
Inside, the final furlong, Kunda Man and Conundrum got close to each other but after an inquiry and a jockey’s objection by Walker, the stewards made no change to the final placings. Third went to Silver Soul (Javaniel Patterson).
Kunda Man, the longest shot on the board paid $2,079 to win and the exacta with Conundrum yielded $7,063.
