KINGSTON, Jamaica – It is not often that a five-year-old first-timer enters the racing fray as a winner.
This situation was unveiled on Saturday, April 15, 2023, when the Louis Richards trained Sherwood Forest with apprentice Shavon Townsend in the saddle won on debut.
Racing in a maiden condition race for five-year-olds coming down the five straight chute, Sherwood Forest dismantled his five-year-old rivals winning by 10 advancing lengths.
That win by Sherwood Forest was the first start in 2023 by trainer Richards and the sixth win this season for Townsend.
Sherwood Forest’s dominant first win was even more pronounced given the fact that this bay horse was nominated to race on March 18 but was declared a late non-starter with the official reason given as, lame.
It is obvious that Sherwood Forest has had and is still having his fair share of problems, which have resulted in such a late competitive appearance.
Congratulations are therefore extended to trainer Richards, and the listed groom, Maurice Hart.
