KINGSTON, Jamaica – King Arthur added the She’s A Maneater Trophy – the Caymanas Saturday ninth – to his growing status with an emphatic victory in the Open Allowance/Graded Stakes contest over a mile.
When the starter let the seven horses in the day’s feature race out of their respective starting stalls, Double Crown (Double Crown) was slowest out, as the only filly in the race, the American bred Awesome Treasure (Dane Dawkins) vied for the lead with King Arthur (Anthony Thomas) tracking along with Sentient (Shane Ellis) well behind.
Running like a scared hare, Awesome Treasure shot off by five lengths after going by the four-furlong marker.
With three furlongs to go Thomas started to get closer on the Jason DaCosta trainee as it was still Awesome Treasure and Double Crown paving the way forward.
Turning into the lane for the final two furlongs, Thomas put King Arthur on the outside and with a determined effort got to the front a furlong out and then went on to win by three-prats-of-a-length. Sentient, who had a rough passage on the inside rails finished second with Double Crown third.
