JUVENILE ATOMICA IMPRESSES ON DEBUT

Atomica - Omar Walker
Atomica - Omar Walker
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Two-year-old chestnut filly Atomica made an eye-catching start to her racing career with victory in the five-furlong round Sunnyside Stakes – a juvenile call confined to fillies.
With Select Me declared a late non-starter at the gates reducing the field to six, Atomica (Nuclear Wayne – Honkeytonkville), with Omar Walker in the saddle, was not the best away as A Gift From Ben (Robert Halledeen) and Berlino’s Choice (Tevin Foster) vied for the lead.
Walker and Atomica started to inch forward with three furlongs left in the contest, still way behind the two pacesetters, when they entered the lane for the final two furlongs.
Atomica started to pick off horses running as green as ever and eventually eased away to win convincingly by 4 widening lengths.
Rupunzel (Oshane Nugent) finished second for the fifth occasion in her 6-race career with A Gift From Ben third.
