Double for trainer Jason DaCosta

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Tekapunt after being extensively warmed up before the start of the race by jockey Phillip Parchment, was able to produce the goods for his connections in the 2022 Sir Howard Stakes regarded as one of the major prep races for the upcoming Classics.
The Sir Howard Stakes is restricted to three-year-old colts and geldings and is competed for over a distance of six furlongs.
When the starter pushed the go button, 9-2 chance Goliath The Great lost his rider Shane Ellis with Phoenix Risen (Omar Walker) finding his way to the lead closely tracked by Shadowfax (Reyan Lewis). At this stage Parchment was wading his way through the pack with Perfect Brew (Dane Nelson), the 1-5 favourite in contention in third place.
Shadowfax got rid of Phoenix Risen close to the end of the bend with Tekapunt under strong handling by Parchment looming large on the outside. Effectively even at this stage, the others were out of this contest.
In the final two furlongs, the Jason DaCosta trainee Tekapunt was engaged in battle with Shadowfax, and with both riders giving it their all, it was Tekapunt, racing for the first time in 76 days, who carried home the trophy. Shadowfax was a distinguished second with Power (Linton Steadman) third. The winning time was 1:14.3, the same clocking done yesterday by Princsshootingstar in the female version of the Sir Howard, the Hot Line Stakes.
Tekapunt by Northern Giant out of Just A Flutter is owned and bred by Bruce Levy.
This was the second winner on the day for DaCosta, who had earlier saddled Sensational Ending.
