KINGSTON, Jamaica - Champion owner Carlton Watson, who played a key role in Panamanian jockey Josue Osorio's arrival at Caymanas Park, stated that Osorio's victory astride his horse Mamma Mia in Saturday's feature race was an appropriate outcome.

On March 30, 2024, Mamma Mia, a four-year-old chestnut filly trained by Jason DaCosta, took first place in the King’s Plate's 15th running. The filly prevailed in the Overnight Allowance race for three-year-olds and older, covering seven and a half furlongs by a comfortable margin of one and a quarter lengths, clocking in at 1:35.0 (24.2 x 48.0 x 1:13.0).

Watson expressed his satisfaction.

“I am very happy that he [Josue Osorio] won on my horse. I initiated the move to have him here to ride, and so it was quite fitting that he secured his first race win in Jamaica on my horse,” Watson shared.

From the onset, Mamma Mia took the lead, with Provocativa (Ramon Nepare), Get A Pepsi (Paul Francis), and Money Monster (Shavon Townsend) trailing in the backstretch. Osorio, not holding back, pushed Mamma Mia into the half-mile bend, where she increased her advantage over her competitors.

Entering the lane at a fast pace, Mamma Mia, despite showing signs of fatigue near the finish, maintained her lead until the end. Get A Pepsi finished in second place, followed by All For Love (Sadiki Blake) in third position.
