KINGSTON, Jamaica - PRINCE “Daggerman” Holder, who has been in and out of the saddle for several years, returned to competitive race riding last weekend with the aim of resurrecting his career.
“I am returning from over a year out of the saddle due to injury. In December of 2020, during the exercise period, I fell from a horse and I got injured and that forced me out of the saddle,” Holder explained.
Holder, who once warmed the hearts of racing fans with his strong riding style and personality, was one in the batch of apprentice riders who made their debut on September 8, 2012. In 2013, he did well, riding 34 winners to finish seventh in the jockeys’ championship and was also voted the most improved rider for that season.
However, Holder had a sudden drop in form which left racegoers wondering what went wrong for the “Daggerman” as winners were few and his absence became more noticeable.
“It feels good to be back in the saddle at Caymanas Park. I have been working hard to get back and now [that] I am riding, I have accomplished one of my goals. One of my other goals is to maintain my presence in the saddle and another goal is to ride winners,” Holder said.
While Holder is happy to be back where he says he belongs, the man with a very huge fan base support at the Park said there is much work to be done and he is willing to make the adjustments necessary to ride winners regularly.
“I know to get back where I was when I was winning races is going to take a lot of hard work, dedication, commitment, determination, and confidence, and that is what I am focusing on right now. Racing is my life and I am here to stay,” the Maggotty High School graduate emphatically stated.
“I want to thank all the trainers, fellow jockeys, grooms, fans, and everybody who has supported me, and I will continue to do the hard work in making everyone proud,” he ended.

  2. DAGGERMAN IS SOMEWHAT UNDERRATED.BECAUSE OF HIS SHORT STATURE HE RIDES IN A UNIQUE FASHION..MOST BIG TRAINERS ARE SCEPTICAL TO GIVE HIM THEIR REAL GOOD RIDES..
YOU WONT FIND DAGGERMAN RIDING A 2-5 FAVORITE .HE'S GOOD AND CAN GET BETTER.IF HE HAND PUNCHES MORE I THINK IT WILL TAKE AWAY THE RELIANCE ON THE WHIP..
    BIG UP THE DAGGERMAN
