He plies his trade as a jockey at the Laurel Park racetrack in Maryland, United States.

Jeiron Barbosa caught the eyes of local racing fans on his debut appearance in Jamaica on Tuesday, August 6, 2024.

Barbosa, who had four rides on the day benefitted from divine intervention by way of a chance ride on the Robert Pearson-conditioned Rani Bangala. Originally, Robert Halledeen was slated to ride the mare.

Barbosa held Rani Bangala in mid-pack, coaxing the five-year-old to produce a telling effort in the stretch. Rani Bangala responded by surging forward to edge out Bern Notice (Tevin Foster) by a half-length on the wire. The crowd cheered wildly as Barbosa celebrated his unexpected win.

The race was a three-year-old and upward Claiming ($1m-$800,000) event over 6 ½ furlongs.

"I feel so happy here, and the racing has been incredible. I can't wait to come back and do it all again. Maybe I will come back for the big race you guys have here in December, the Mouttet Mile. Yeah, I will be back here; I will definitely come back,” Barbosa said.

Commenting on winning on his first mount in Jamaica, Rani Bangala, Barbosa said: “The first part of the race, she didn’t want to come but in the straight I asked her and she responded. My career has been amazing. I am very happy when I am winning races.”
