KINGSTON, Jamaica – The 10-race Caymanas Monday (August 9) card got off to a favourable start for punters following the victory by Bala Gris, odds on at 4-5.
Bala Gris ridden by Dick Cardenas and trained by Patrick Lynch was successful in a five-year-old and upwards Restricted Allowance (non-winners of three) going seven furlongs.
When the starter let them go, Cardenas quickly put Bala Gris in the lead with Black River (Samantha Fletcher) challenging on the inside.
Bala Gris disposed of Black River leaving the half mile marker with Silver Tapp (Kiaman McGregor - chance ride) moving down to pose a threat.
The two entered the straight (both going wide), and then Bala Gris and Cardenas gained the ascendency.
Silver Tapp, although veering towards the outside was still able to challenge losing by a length. Sweet Surprise (Roger Hewitt), also running on was third.
