KINGSTON, Jamaica - Jockey Christopher Douglas notched his first win since his return to the saddle at Caymanas Park aboard the Patrick Lynch-conditioned Gone A Negril.
Douglas’ win came in a native-bred five year old and upwards (non-winners of two) and imported five year old and upwards (maidens) going 6 furlongs (1,200m).
Gone A Negril missed the break at the start and raced off the lead as Legal Opportunity (Richard Ingram) sped to the front ahead of Absolute Blue (Ramon Nepare) and Hopenperseverance (Matthew Bennett). Gone A Negril recovered going into the half-mile (800m) turn when he rounded horses to settle in fourth place riding the bend for home.
Entering the lane in second position behind Absolute Blue, Gone A Negril increased the tempo in deep stretch and edged away to win by 3 ½ lengths ahead of Magic Bullet (Roger Hewitt) and Another Champion (Ameth Robles). The race finished in a time of 1:18.1 (23.3 x 48.3).
