KINGSTON, Jamaica – The revival of jockey Andre Powell continued to gather momentum he rode 2-1 chance Lady Bastipur to victory in the Caymanas Tuesday second.
Lady Bastipur conditioned by Donovan Russell earned her first win in a four-year-old and upwards maiden condition race going seven furlongs.
Lady Bastipur contested the early lead with Plutologist (Matthew Bennett) with the 3-5 odds on favourite Mister A (Shane Ellis) tracking on the outside.
In a change of leadership order, Mister A took over with about four furlongs to go. Watching the move by Ellis closely Powell asked Lady Bastipur to follow.
The two leaders were close to each other entering the straight and it was then that Lady Bastipur got into her best stride pulling away from a faltering Mister A who failed to hit the board.
Cup Cake (Tevin Foster) was second with Bukola (Ramon Napere) third.
