KINGSTON, Jamaica – Horse of the Year Atomica will next race in the Jamaica Cup (9 ½ furlongs) scheduled for November 11.
This was confirmed by the trainer of the filly, Gary Subratie following her fourth consecutive victory on Saturday, September 23, 2023, in the 10-furlong Menudo Trophy.
“After Saturday, we will give Atomica a breather and then embark in preparing her for her next engagement, which is the Jamaica Cup where she is the defending champion.
“This means that Atomica will not be entered in the seven-furlong Gold Cup, scheduled for October,” Subratie told Quickgallop.com.
As to the performance of Atomica in the Menudo, Subratie offered that it, he was satisfied with the performance.
“First off, the competition was not the best possible in the Menudo. Notwithstanding, Atomica did what she had to do without much fuss, winning comfortably. She was relaxed throughout, and although I wanted her to clock about in a second less, the performance was good enough based on the competition and what she had to do while giving away lots of weight to all her rivals.
“She came out of the race in good nick, nothing untoward, as she gobbled her feed and was happy. The task ahead is to get her right for the coming engagements of the Jamaica Cup, and the Mouttet Mile in early December.
“So, the Menudo was a good two-turn engagement for Atomica to run, especially with the Jamaica Cup on the horizon. The task now is to ensure her health and gradually get her going at morning exercise.
“Atomica at this stage is good and proper, and we at the stables will be working to get her in prime form for the races to come,” Subratie said in his post-race interview.
