KINGSTON, Jamaica - The third race on Saturday, October 12, 2024, is in honour of Princess Popstar, an outstanding filly and former Horse of the Year.

The race, known as the Princess Popstar, is for two-year-old winners, marking the first time this season that juvenile winners will be racing against each other.

It is also the first time in 2024 that the youngsters will be racing on the round course.

Out of the five horses entered, three are foreigners and the other two are locally bred horses.

Here's a preview of the likely outcome for each horse in draw order.

1 - SASH IT is a dark bay filly from Canada, born on February 12. She is sired by Gamble’s Exchange out of Desdemona, trained by Rohan Crichton, with Victor Sanchez as the jockey. SASH IT finished third on debut 14 days ago at four furlongs, but may struggle to win going longer.

2 - MISS MONEYPENNY is a chestnut filly born on March 26, sired by Bern Identity out of Pomeroy’s Secret, trained by Jason DaCosta, with Tevin Foster as the jockey. MISS MONEYPENNY races with first-time Lasix and has shown promise, winning the first two-year race of the season (3 furlongs) and demonstrating good form in morning training. She is expected to be a strong contender even racing 3 ½ furlongs longer.

3 - UNSPUN is a dark bay colt from the USA, born on April 28. He is sired by Spun To Run out of U Needa Ride, trained by Donovan Hutchinson, with Michael Semple as the rider. UNSPUN finished third in his first race on September 28 over four furlongs, indicating that he should be respected with the extra ground to cover.

4 - BURNING HEDGE is a chestnut filly born on April 16, sired by Hedge Fund out of Burning Clearance, trained by Carl Anderson, with Shane Richardson as the jockey. BURNING HEDGE showed a strong finishing kick in her previous race, suggesting that she will perform well with the extra distance of the Princess Popstar if the pace is fast.

5 - FLAG OF VICTORY is a chestnut filly from Canada, born on March 22, sired by Point of Entry out of Run The Flag, trained by Winchester McIntosh, with Raddesh Roman as the designated rider. FLAG OF VICTORY races with the visor off and the blinkers on, and still has room for improvement.
