KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jockey Samantha Fletcher earned her 12 win this season when she brought Cat’s Rigger from well off the pace to catch and beat long-time leader Markofaprince in the Caymanas Monday fifth.
Markofaprince trained by Lance Richards was winning his fourth race from 66 starts in a five-year-old and upwards Optional Claiming ($180,000 - $150,000) going four furlongs straight.
As to be expected it was the speed duo of Markofaprince (Youville Pinnock) and Superbolt (Hakeem Pottinger) who carried the field from the gates opened. After coming on to the race track proper, Markofaprince started to push on while tacking more to the inside of the track.
Then in the final furlong, Fletcher produced Cat’s Riggers also moving from way on the outside to the inside, and flew by a fading Markofaprince with Hail Mary (Matthew Bennett) finishing third.
