KINGSTON, Jamaica – At last after 29 starts, Letters In Gold by Soul Warrior – Miss Angeline broke her losing spell with victory in the Caymanas Saturday fifth. Interesting, Letters In Gold trained by Gary Griffiths had earned $1.14 million coming into this race.
Letters in Gold first success came in a three-year-old maiden special weight contest run over 5 ½ furlongs.
Jockey Hakeem Pottinger kept Letters In Gold off the early pace set by Lady Pujarie (Paul Francis) and Prosecco (Dick Cardenas).
Lady Pujarie then moved away from the pack to be in front entering the straight for the final two furlongs with Pottinger choosing the route on the outside.
Lady Pujarie was still going strong as Letters In Gold nudged closer and closer, and eventually went ahead close to the winning post to win by three parts of a length.
Lady Pujarie was second and Prosecco third.
