INTERESTING GOLD CUP FACTS AND FIGURES FOR 2022

1 – Based on the Overnight programme, the 2022 Gold has eight starters. Of those eight nominated to participate three are filles; Atomica, She’s My Destiny , and She’s A Wonder.

2 – Based on the Overnight, the 2022 Gold Cup sees fifty per cent of the eight starters being foreigners. The foreigners are Jordon Reign’s, Runaway Algo, I Am Fred, and Race Car.

3 – Atomica and Runaway Algo are the only three-year-olds in the 2022 Gold Cup.

4 – Three of the eight Gold Cup riders have been crowned champion jockeys. They are Dick Cardenas on Jordon Reign’s, Christopher Mamdeen on Runaway Algo, and Anthony Thomas on I Am Fred.

5 – Race Car is the only grey in the line-up.

6 – The dominant trainer in the 2022 Gold Cup is Ian Parsard with three entries, Jordon Reign’s, Mahogany, and  She’s A Wonder.

7– The dominant sire is the Paradise at Spring Village domiciled Bern Identity, Bern Identity has two of his offspring in the event She’s A Wonder (Bern Identity out of Jamaican Dream) and She’s My Destiny (Bern Identity out of Woman Is Boss).

8- The Gold Cup was first run in 1967 and was won by KILLOWATT for owners Mr. and Mrs Neville East and Carl Fornaris. KILLOWATT went on to be victorious in 1968 and again in 1970, under the care of trainer Valbert Marlowe with Cleveland Suckie in the saddle on all three occasions.

9 - The Track and Stakes record of 1:22.4 was set in 1994 by the Philip Feanny O.D. conditioned EROS for owners P. Feanny, Dr. C. Bradford and I. Clarke. EROS also equalled his record in 1995.
