KINGSTON, Jamaica – THE QUICK GALLOPER has gone through the starters and connections taking part in the 2022 – 1000 Guineas and has put together some interesting facts and figures, which are offered below. Please note these facts and figures are based on the Overnight programme, and are subject to change as scratch time is later today (June 1, 2022).
THE SIRES
The dominant sire among the eight runners is Savoy Stomp. Standing at HAM Stables Limited, Savoy Stomp is the sire of three of the runners in the 1000. Nefertari is by Savoy Stomp out of Princess Geeta; Silent Mission is by Savoy Stomp out of Lady Mandi, and Our Angel by Savoy Stomp out of My Angel.
Savoy Stomp is followed by Northern Giant (now deceased) with two of the Guineas starters. Filling out the sire’s roster are Nuclear Wayne, Soul Warrior, and Lion Tamer.
THE HORSES
THE QUICK GALLOPER begins this category with a fact that has no bearing on the possible outcome of this Classic race. Five of the starters in the 1000 Guineas are bay fillies, with the other three being chestnuts.
The only unbeaten filly in the 1000 is Atomica with four victories to her credit, which qualifies her for the Overnight Allowance grade. Atomica is followed by champion two-year-old Golden Wattle with three wins. The other six are all at the non-winners of two level.
By far, the horse with the most starts is Fly Messenger Fly with 17 runs in her hoofs.
The 1000 Guineas is for three-year-old fillies, of the eight starters, the oldest is Atomica with a birth date of March 18. The youngster is Silent Mission born on May 1.
THE JOCKEYS
Of the eight riders in the 1000, four, Shane Ellis, Omar Walker, Robert Halledeen, and Dick Cardenas have tasted success in this Classic.
THE TRAINERS
Of the eight trainers in the 1000, only three, Anthony Nunes, Gary Subratie, and Richard Azan have saddled the winners in this Class.
