Trainer Jason DaCosta expressed measured optimism following the debut of his three-year-old American-bred bay filly, Imjustagirl, on Monday, April 6, 2026.

After consistent morning work, she delivered a decisive performance, winning by 7 lengths over 6 furlongs (1,200m) in 1:11.3, with splits of 21.4, 45.2, and 58.1.

The race was a Restricted Allowance II for native-bred three-year-olds (non-winners of two) and imported maidens three and older. Imjustagirl broke cleanly, went straight to the front, and maintained control throughout. Army Tank, ridden by Dane Dawkins, recovered from a slow start to chase in second, while Purosangue, with Clive Lynch aboard, finished third. Jockey Robert Halledeen never needed to ask for more, as the filly maintained her pace comfortably to the wire.

DaCosta noted:

“I am very impressed with the run. She was working unbelievable in the mornings, so I have high hopes for her. I just told [Robert] Halledeen that if he didn’t need to push her, then don’t push her, just save her for the down the road. She did it effortless, very impressive time, basically jogging around, and I couldn’t be happier.”

He added:

“She beat a good horse and she did it effortless and so I hoping that she keeps healthy and happy and she should have a good season. It is early days and so we are going to take it step by step, one day at a time.”

The straightforward victory has placed Imjustagirl on the radar as a filly with potential, though DaCosta emphasized the importance of patience and keeping her sound as the season unfolds.
