KINGSTON, Jamaica – On Saturday, September 30, 2023, there was no person happier at Caymanas Park than trainer Alford Brown. Widely known as "Big Al" in racing circles, he watched proudly as his four-year-old bay gelding, I Realise, pushed through a challenging 7½-furlong Overnight Allowance race to secure victory.
This win marked I Realise's fifth in 13 starts, which is even more impressive considering his 154-day break.
Brown expressed his immense joy to Quickgallop.com: "I am absolutely ecstatic with I Realise's performance. It's moments like these that make racing such a thrilling pursuit."
Brown went on to share some background information on the win.
“I Realise has faced several challenges, including a hairline fracture of the shin and a stone squeeze injury. Additionally, this eager gelding tends to run too fast, potentially causing further harm.
“The veterinarian's persistent efforts and the owner's patience enabled I Realise to overcome these obstacles to perform so well on Saturday—a truly unforgettable moment,” according to Brown.
When asked about I Realise's future plans, Brown remained focused:
"After Saturday's race, I Realise is thus far in good condition. We will continue monitoring him to ensure his well-being."
Brown admitted that the long break from racing affected I Realise's performance on Saturday hence him shortening but believes a brief rest is in order before potentially participating in the seven-furlong Gold Cup on October 16.
