KINGSTON, Jamaica, Trainer Jason DaCosta was thrilled with I Am Fred's impressive performance in the Supreme Ventures Limited 23rd Anniversary Trophy on Saturday, June 22, 2024.

He didn't expect his horse to win by such a large margin.

I Am Fred, a six-year-old American-bred bay colt, led from the start and finished first in the Graded Stakes/Open Allowance contest over 5 ½ furlongs, with a winning time of 1:05.2 (23.3 x 47.0 x 59.0).

Even though DaCosta anticipated a strong run from I Am Fred, he was surprised by the exceptional performance. He mentioned, "The performance from I Am Fred was surprising. I expected him to run well, but not this well. I think this is the best he has ever run."

The initial plan was for I Am Fred to get a good break, assuming that Mahogany would take the lead. However, I Am Fred ended up in front, which worked out perfectly.

DaCosta said, "Coming off a layoff, he is fresh and feeling good right now, so he is on top of his game. We will pick his spots and see where he goes from here."

Ridden by champion rider Reyan Lewis, I Am Fred took the lead ahead of Joy Is Golden (Jerome Innis) and Sensational Move (Aaron Chatrie).

I Am Fred maintained the lead well into the half-mile and extended the advantage as the race progressed.

I Am Fred's victory was unquestionable, as no real rivals emerged in the deep stretch. His stablemate, Is That A Fact (Josue Osorio), finished second, followed by Mahogany (Raddesh Roman) in third place.

Owner Milad Azan expressed his delight with the victory. "I think it was an excellent race; the jockey rode a fantastic race, and the horse was immaculate," Azan said.

"I am so pleased with the outcome of this race, and we have a lot more to come. Thanks to my unbelievable trainer. This horse can do anything; he can stay and sprint," he added.
