KINGSTON, Jamaica – With the promoting company forced to change established race days because of the government’s e new COVID-19 restrictions, there is added significance to the 11-race programme on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at Caymanas Park.
The day belongs to the farriers with the 10th – an Open Allowance sprint coming down the five straight nominated as the highlighter.
There are seven starters in this sprint with only Prince Charles already hampered by the one draw safe to rule as a possible winner.
The horse with the best overall credentials of the remaining six is the Gary Subratie trained Sentient who has campaigned at the top level with distinction several times. The other Subratie entrants are Duke and Crimson.
The Subratie trio, who are all owned by The Success Farm, is better known for being effective coming from behind. Usually, they are slow starters giving their best at the end of their races. They are not accustomed to the shorter distances especially Sentient and Crimson. Duke has won over 5 ½ furlongs but none of the members of the Subratie brigade has a history over the five straight.
Improving American invader Solid Approach after signalling her progress with a win at the level below makes her debut in this class and will definitely need the requisite time to get to known her new surroundings.
That leaves the two sprinters and lovers of the five straight, Trevor’s Choice and Capturemyship. Trevor’s Choice after conquering all at the end of last year at 5 ½ furlongs, made his seasonal debut three weeks ago finishing a workmanlike third behind Duke and Patriarch.
Having that pipe opener Trevor’s Choice, who has had his issues, seems to be fit at this time and with his liking for the five straight can get his first win of the season.
Capturemyship is, without doubt, the most accomplished of this lot when competing at this distance. Capturemyship having delved effectively in the claiming ranks has made a round about-turn in his fortunes under the care of trainer Gregory Forsyth.
Capturemyship has forged a good partnership with jockey Anthony Thomas who is sure to provide assured guidance.
