KINGSTON, Jamaica – Hot Ice ridden by Omar Simpson, who has not entered the winner enclosure in quite a while, and trained by veteran Raymond Townsend, got the first of 11 races on the Caymanas Sunday card of to a 5-1 start just minutes ago.
After the well-backed Musketoon and Ridewiththemob were slowly out of the gates, Smooth Criminal and Treasure Train disputed the headlines with Hot Ice and Simpson lurking behind.
Simpson made his move leaving the three-furlong marker and by the time the horses entered the straight was already in front and travelling nicely. Hot Ice then melted the opposition to win by nine lengths with second going to Tradition (Romario Spencer) and third to Ridewiththemob (Dane Nelson).
With a mandatory payout today in the Reggae-6 which carries a jackpot of over $8.8 million, punters flocked to the betting places, online, at the track and the over 100 Offtrack Betting Parlours across the island wagering a massive $13.5 million.
The combined pool to be paid out inclusive of jackpot stands at $18.379,896.64.
