KINGSTON, Jamaica – When the official roster for the 2025 edition of The Kingston (7 ½ furlongs) was announced, much of the buzz centered on the unexpected absence of Honour Prince, the promising colt trained by Robert Pearson.
Honour Prince has firmly established himself as the leading contender among three-year-old colts and geldings, securing victories in both the 6-furlong Sir Howard Stakes and the 7-furlong Prince Consort Stakes. His absence from The Kingston raised eyebrows, but trainer Pearson later shed light on the decision following the draw for post positions.
“It’s a strategic move by his connections,” Pearson explained. “Honour Prince is in good health, but we believe giving him more time to mature and develop will benefit him in the long run. He’s a small, growing colt, and with the 2000 Guineas fast approaching in early June, we want him to be well-rested, properly conditioned, and at his peak when the big day arrives.”
With The Kingston serving as the final preparatory race before the 2000 Guineas, many expected Honour Prince to be on the track. However, Pearson reiterated that the decision was made with a long-term vision for the colt’s success.
The Kingston is set to take place on Sunday, May 4, 2025.
