KINGSTON, Jamaica – Hoist The Mast, a three-year-old chestnut filly by Blue Pepsi Lodge – Opulent notched her third win from 13 starts in the Caymanas Monday seventh.
Ridden by Dick Cardenas for champion trainer Anthony Nunes, Hoist The Mast earned her latest visit to the winners’ circle in a Restricted Stakes call going a distance of six furlongs (1,200 metres).
Cardenas zoomed Hoist The Mast straight to the front and was challenged for the first two furlongs by Awesome Choice (Jerome Innis), with Nuclear Noon (Shane Ellis) and others trailing about five lengths behind.
Hoist The Mast turned for the last two furlongs with the lead and was never challenged although Nuclear Noon did cut off some lengths with Awesome Choice finishing third.
