Historic race day with no spectators gets underway with 1-5 Super Mal winning

KINGSTON, Jamaica – The pounding of the horses’ hoofs could be heard when the gates from as far as the three furlong marker at Caymanas Park moments ago.

There was no shouting from the stands of punters supporting their horses or the “cussing” of jockeys. There was silence, as the first race ever to be run in Jamaica without spectators got underway with the 1-5 favourite Super Mal ridden by apprentice Matthew Bennett wining by  3 ½ lengths.

Second went to Royal Girl (Oneil Scott) with Buck Call (Chalrick Budhai) third.
