KINGSTON, Jamaica – The highly thought of American bred filly, Hilly’s Halo returns to competitive racing today (April 6) on the 11-race card at Caymanas Park after a break of 98 days, stepping down from Open Allowance to the Overnight Allowance level over the five straight (1000m) course.
Trained by the in-form Gary Subratie, Hilly’s Halo has been dogged with injuries throughout her career but has been catching the eye at exercise recently thereby giving the clear indication that she is fit and ready to give of her best.
Eleven horses have been nominated in what should be a wild sprint down the straight. Here is a look at the chances of these 11 horses.
1 – Fifty Cents – Stepping up but not ready for these. Odds: 99-1
2 – Night Light – Getting to know life in Overnight right now. Odds:60-1
3 – Crucial Appeal – Old stager who is going to find the young guns difficult to handle but has speed and might prove a thorn for the others. May hit the board. Odds: 7-2
4 – Sir Budget – Has been missing for 136 days and for sure is going to time to find himself again. Odds: 35-1
5 – Bruce Wayne – This 5-y-o has not raced since December of last year and has never been known as a sprinter. Bruce Wayne is probably biding his time for future races. Odds: 25-1
6 – Hilly’s Halo – Has hit the board in all of her 11 starts with four wins to show for her efforts. Hilly’s Halo has already won in this class but injuries have hampered her progress. If, she is fit and ready then this will not going to be a race, as Hilly’s Halo has the class and will win easily. Odds: 9-2
7 – Lottery Ticket – Is just returning from injuries and needs time but is a game individual and if the leaders burn themselves out, Lottery Ticket chances will be greatly enhanced. Odds: 3-1
8 – Yaya’s Dream – Comes in this race after two consecutive victories including one over the straight course, yet, this is the first outing for Yaya’s Dream in this grade and as such is just given an outsider’s chance. Odds: 25-1
9 – Mr Pantheon – New in the class and his first two runs have not been inspiring. Odds: 20-1
10 – Royal Vibes – Prepping here for the long races. Odds: 25-1
11 – K D Flyer – Carries the weight in this race and is without doubt a specialist over the five straight, in fact, K D Flyer’s last nines races have been over the straight during which time he has won three times. Despite the weight, K D Flyer is drawn on the outside which always favours horses down the straight, and this fact alone should make his task of winning much easier. K D Flyer has had some good efforts against horses the likes of Nuclear Flight and Money Magnet, and now against these his task of winning is quite evident. Odds:8/5
CONCLUSION – Straight fight between Hilly's Halo and K D Flyer with the former being the choice.
