KINGSTON, Jamaica – Three races and three wins for jockey Dick Cardenas after 3-5 favourite Lightning McQueen held on to win the Caymanas Saturday third.

The completion of Cardenas’ natural hat-trick came in a three-year-old and upwards claiming ($750,000 - $600,000) contest travelling six furlongs.

From the off it was a duel involving Lighting McQueen and Another Commander (Jordan Barrett) with the former winning that battle by skittering away for a two to three length advantage rounding the turn for home.

In the final two furlongs, Lightning McQueen trained by Clifford Atkinson Jr started to falter as Kholbear (Chris Mamdeen) on the inside and Special Counsel (Daniel Thompson) on the outside made their moves.

Despite drifting appreciably to the right, Cardenas was able to squeeze the last bit of juice from Lightning McQueen going to to win by three parts of a length.

Second was Kholbear with Special Counsel third.
