KINGSTON, Jamaica – Before the two race days of last weekend (Sat, Oct 29 – Sun, Oct 30, 2022), jockey Abigail Able had one winner from 54 mounts in 2022.
The young lady increased her tally to three, after opening the Saturday card on the Jason DaCosta-trained Ianzha Links, then closed the weekend by winning the final event atop Miniature Man, again conditioned by DaCosta.
‘Abbi’ has been around for a while, without sinking her teeth into the riding profession, oftentimes playing second fiddle to her main female rival Samantha Fletcher.
Could Abbi have turned that critical corner in her career? She was confident, showing critical race judgement and an appreciation for patience when guiding Ianzha Links to victory. Abbi was confident, looking like she belonged.
Able was even better on Miniature Man. Racing from a wide draw in a field of 14 starters, she was never hurried, instead, she moved her mount slowly down to be within striking distance after three furlongs in the 6 ½ furlong contest.
After biding her time, she produced Miniature Man on the outside under strong handling to nab the front runner, and then pulled away for the win. Able looked impressive during the execution of her riding duties, giving the impression that, indeed, she was blossoming into a competent rider and not merely a race day decoration.
Checks by THE QUICK GALLOPER indicate that Able is ever present at morning exercise putting in the hard work.
One trainer of some repute on the local circuit said about Able: “She (Abigail) looks good in the saddle, and you can see that she is progressing. She is a hard worker, handles the horses well, and if she gets physically stronger, she will win races.”

  1. She can become a very good jockey if she build up her strength level hit the gym if she is right handed get the left hand equally strong and make sure she has a clock in her head the best jockeys have all those qualities it's not about using the whip unnecessarily like what I see at caymanas park a good clock in your head plus balance and she can make it
