KINGSTON, Jamaica - US bred three-year-old bay colt GOODBYE FIREFLY by MUCHO MACHO MAN out of SHANGHAI LADY impressed racing pundits with his facile victory in only his second start on Independence Day (August 6, 2024).

Racing in a non-two for locally bred three-year-old horses and a maiden for foreigners at seven furlongs, GOODBYE FIREFLY with Reyan Lewis dominated from start to finish, winning by an exorbitant 13 ½ lengths in a time of 1:28.0 with splits of 23.4 x 48.0 x 1:14.1.

“I bought GOODBYE FIREFLY along with COMMANDER Z in the April Ocala Sale of 2023 as two-year-olds.

“It took a while for them to settle properly to our local conditions, but both are now racing, for which I am happy,” trainer of GOODBYE FIREFLY, Spencer Chung told Quickgallopja.com.

As to the performance of GOODBYE FIREFLY in winning his first race?

“The first time he raced, it was over five furlongs straight, which in my view was a bit short for GOODBYE FIREFLY.

Based on his exercise efforts it was clear he wanted to go longer, so I entered this race going seven furlongs.

GOODBYE FIREFLY looked good in winning, and we, meaning the owners, Miramar Racing Club and myself as the conditioned are looking forward to more progress. He should acquit himself well,” Chung said.
