Going With The ‘Magic’ In Open Allowance Call

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Only six horses kick off at the first Opening Allowance level event for this season.

The six-furlong St Catherine Cup pits formidable rivals against each other including Duke, God of Love, and I’ve Got Magic.

The Quick Galloper does an early assessment of the six horses nominated to race in this event. Note, this assessment is done based on the Overnight program, and is subject to change.

1 – MADELYN’S SUNSHINE was a complete no-show when heavily backed to the tune of 4-5 on December 10, 2022. This foreigner seems to have health issues, which have limited her to only seven starts. If Madelyn’s Sunshine returns to fit and proper mode then she has a good opportunity to repair the damage.

2 – DUKE as ever is the consistent one, who is entering his seventh year. The trip of six furlongs is perfect for the running style, as he can stay close to the leader (s) and then strike in the lane. Good for an exacta wager.

3 – GOD OF LOVE is now racing under the care of Rowan Mathie. God of Love has enough speed to be close to the pacesetters before striking in the straight. God of Love and Duke have exchanged places on the last two occasions, and once again any number can play.

4 – CURLIN’S AFFAIR a winner in the lower Overnight Allowance grade seven days ago. Curlin’s Affair during his sojourn in Open Allowance did little to suggest he can handle these Despite his recent form, Curlin’s Affair is not expected to rattle rivals.

5 – I’VE GOT MAGIC ran well to finish fourth in the Ian Levy over 8 ½ furlongs (December 31, 2022). That run 14 days ago was a continuation of this US-bred rich form, inclusive of a win over this distance on December 11. He has proven his mettle before and is on song for another significant engagement.

6 – ALEXA’S DREAM cannot deal with these opponents.
