KINGSTON, Jamaica - The anticipation builds for the third race of ten on Saturday, November 28, 2024, featuring a contest for juvenile horses, both locally and foreign bred, competing over seven furlongs.
This race is named in honour of former Classic race winner, Mr Sensational, and is part of the prestigious BGLC | TOBA Millionaire Series.
Here’s a quick assessment of the contenders vying for victory.
1 - UNRULY MO is a promising bay colt (USA March 23) by Outwork out of Snakeinthegrass, trained by Oral Hayden, with Shane Ellis in the saddle. Making his debut, this foreigner has caught the attention of morning watchers and has been progressing impressively, clocking a rapid 1:00.4 for five furlongs in preparation for his first outing. Expectations are high for Unruly Mo, but only time will tell if he can deliver on race day.
2 - LOVISA is a chestnut filly (April 15) by Soul Warrior out of Palace Gold, prepared by Jason DaCosta and ridden by Robert Halledeen. After securing a victory in her first outing at four furlongs, Lovisa was initially slated to race on November 2 but was declared a late non-starter. In her debut win, she finished three lengths ahead of Unspun, who later triumphed convincingly. Now, as she stretches to seven furlongs, this distance challenge may pose a significant hurdle. However, Lovisa’s potential makes her a horse to watch closely.
3 - HAZELNUT is a chestnut filly (March 16) by Soul Warrior out of Money Magnet, trained by Richard Azan, with Dane Dawkins taking the reins. Racing with first-time Lasix, Hazelnut showed her capabilities in her second race, where she won a maiden call over six furlongs effortlessly. She appears well-equipped for the seven-furlong distance, yet may face challenges against a stronger field.
4 - UNSPUN is a dark bay colt (April 28) by Spun To Run out of U Needa Ride, under the training of Donovan Hutchinson with Christopher Mamdeen aboard. After a convincing victory in his second outing over six furlongs on November 2, Unspun has demonstrated that he is ready to compete at seven furlongs. His promising form suggests he could be a strong contender for a second win.
5 - BURNING HEDGE is a chestnut filly (April 16) by Hedge Fund out of Burning Clearance, trained by Carl Anderson, with Dick Cardenas as her jockey. This filly struggled against Unspun in her latest outing and no significant changes are expected for her performance on Saturday.
6 - DANKA is another chestnut filly (January 24) by Aveenu Malcainu out of Baby P, trained by Richard Azan with Tevin Foster in the saddle. Racing with a tongue tie, Danka fought hard to secure her first victory on November 19 (originally scheduled for October 19). Her learning curve continues as she prepares to face her competitors this Saturday.
With a range of talent on display, the race promises to be an exciting showdown amongst these youthful contenders.
