KINGSTON, Jamaica - The third event of nine scheduled for Saturday, February 8, 2025, features three-year-old locally bred horses competing at the non-two level, as well as foreign-bred maidens.
A total of six horses are set to face the starter in a race covering 5 ½ furlongs.
The Quick Galloper offers insights into each of the six starters and assesses their chances of success.
1 - PRINCESS KRIS: A bay filly (USA April 1) by Goldencents out of Sugar Babe, trained by Donovan Hutchinson with Michael Semple aboard. Racing with visors, this foreign bred has yet to show promise in her two starts. Her success remains uncertain.
2 - AMERICAN AVIATOR: A dark brown colt (USA February 25) by American Freedom out of Marks Miss, trained by Jason DaCosta with Robert Halledeen riding. Making his debut after several impressive exercise spins, there is strong confidence in the camp that American Aviator is ready to succeed right from the start.
3 - MIGHTY GULLY: A bay filly (April 21) by Buzz Nightmare out of Lady Exotic, trained by Robert Pearson with Romane Godon in the saddle. Racing with first-time Lasix, she won on debut (February 3) and then showed consistent form in her non-two race. Mighty Gully is expected to be a serious contender.
4 - RICORICORICO: A bay colt (February 3) by Win Win Win out of Frosty Nightmare, trained by Jason DaCosta with Raddesh Roman as the jockey. He debuted on December 7, 2024, garnering attention from morning workouts but finished third, seven lengths behind the winner, Rideallday. Improvements have been noted, and he looks better prepared for this race.
5 - MY ECLIPSE: A bay colt (March 31) by Sensational Slam out of My Episode, trained by Phillip Lee with Oshane Nugent riding. Racing with first-time Lasix, he achieved his first win on January 11 in a surprising upset. Competing in non-two for the first time, he requires time to adjust to the new conditions.
6 - HONOUR PRINCE: A bay colt (May 19) by Bern Identity out of Awesome Lucy, trained by Robert Pearson with Ismael Velasquez as the nominated jockey. Having won last time out, this home-bred is entering the non-two grade for the first time and has been performing well in the mornings, suggesting a strong run is expected.
