Eight horses claimed on the day

EASY DOES IT FOR THE NEXTBIGTING

Nine-year-old bay mare The Nextbigting (Storm Craft – Slim Ting) made light work of rivals in a five-year-old and upwards Optional Claiming ($180,000-$150,000) event over 6 furlongs (1,200m).

Ridden by Chalrick Budhai for trainer Gordon Lewis, The Nextbigting raced prominently in second place behind Indy Arazi (Roger Hewitt). Navigating the half-mile (800m) turn, The Nextbigting went up to challenge Indy Arazi for the lead, going ahead at the top of the lane.

After getting the lead, The Nextbigting went on to win easily by 5 ½ lengths in a time of 1:17.1. Finishing second was Smooth Criminal (Hakeem Pottinger), with third place occupied by Synchronize (Nicholas Hibbert).

 BACK-TO-BACK WINS FOR MISTER A

After releasing the maiden two weeks ago over the straight course, the Everal Francis’ Mister A (War Marshall – Catamaran) made it two wins in a row when he defeated rivals in a native-bred five-year-old and upwards Restricted Allowance (non-winners of two) contest going one mile (1,600m).

Mister A was a bit tardy when the gates opened but the chestnut gelding quickly moved into mid-pack down the backstretch as Soul Treasure (Daniel Thompson) led the field ahead of Qurandero (Dennis Brown) and Chanae (Roger Hewitt).

Mister A made-up ground while rounding horses at the half-mile before surging to the front at the top of the lane. Mister A then carried his gallop to the wire, winning by 6 ¾ lengths ahead of Toughness (Dane Nelson) and Rainmaker (Jordan Barrett). The final time for the event was 1:47.0.

MAGICAL MOOD HOLDS ON AT 22-1

Magical Mood, ridden by Samantha Fletcher, made all to upset rivals at odds of 22-1 in a Restricted Allowance (non-winners of two) call for four-year-old and upwards at 6 furlongs (1,200m).

As the starter pressed the button, the Leroy Tomlinson-conditioned Magical Mood comfortably moved to the front. Magical Mood held the lead going into the half-mile ahead of Moonova (Dane Dawkins); Mum (Aaron Chatrie); Sweet Destiny (Paul Francis) and Three Times Lucky (Anthony Thomas).

Then after establishing the advantage, Magical Mood started to drift towards the middle of the track but the four-year-old chestnut filly was able to hold on from Cruella (Oneil Mullings) to win by 1 ½ lengths with Three Times Lucky finishing in third place. The final time for the event was 1:13.3 with splits of 23.3 x 47.1.

RING CHARMER GETS UP IN TIME

Trained by Patrick Lynch and ridden by Omar Walker, Ring Charmer produced a late run in deep stretch to collar long-time leader Jahsendblessings to win a four-year-old and upwards Restricted Allowance V event over 5 furlongs straight.

Jahsendblessings (Dane Nelson) shot to the front ahead of Bridal Blush (Oshane Nugent) as Ring Charmer tracked the two leaders from third place. Ring Charmer maintained his position behind the leaders until crossing the dummy rails when Walker asked for a final push.

Inside the final furlong, Ring Charmer got into his groove and made it in time to beat Jahsendblessings by 1 ¼ lengths. Bridal Blush was third. The final time was a quick 58.3.
