KINGSTON, Jamaica - On Ash Wednesday, March 5, 2025, the nine-race card was dominated by the betting favourites. Out of the total races held, an overwhelming seven were captured by the favourites, including six which were odds-on selections.
The first six races as is the norm the highly popular Reggae 6 wager. From the six races involved, four were clinched by odds-on favourites, culminating in a notably low payout despite the day marking a mandatory distribution for the Reggae 6 pool.
The excitement surrounding the mandatory payout led to a substantial total payout pool exceeding $30 million. However, the concentration of winning odds-on horses resulted in a payout of just $8,296, for each winning ticket. This led many winning ticket holders to line up at the payout windows, slightly disappointed.
The standout surprise as it turned out on the day came in the seventh race, where the Errol Burke-trained Security Code broke through at odds of 5-1, providing a refreshing twist to an otherwise predictable day of racing.
