KINGSTON, Jamaica – Father Patrick after a good effort behind more noted stablemate Mahogany last Saturday, (June 27), confirmed that form with a stirring victory in race number 10 at Caymanas Park.
Racing in a Restricted Allowance 111 contest for four-year-olds and upwards – non-winners of four gong 6 ½ furlongs; Father Patrick ridden by Omar Walker watched proceedings from fourth as Baltusrol (Andre Martin) and Truly Amazing (Oneil Mullings) vied for the lead.
Then all of a sudden, Walker decide to press the go button with three and a half furlongs left in the contest and Father Patrick responded by swooping to the lead in effortless fashion thereby slipping the field.
In the straight, Father Patrick fought for all he was worth as Duke (Robert Halledeen) and a gritty Truly Amazing came a calling with rasping runs.
In a bang-up finish inside the last half a furlong, Walker was able to get just a little more from Father Patrick, holding on to win by ¾ length. Duke was second and Truly Amazing third. The winning time was a fast 1:19.1.
The win by Father Patrick gave Walker a welcomed return to the winners’ enclosure.
