KINGSTON, Jamaica – The second edition of the Clovis Metcalfe Trophy set for Saturday, July 1, 2023, has attracted six starters.
The Clovis Metcalfe is for three-year-old and upwards horses at the Open Allowance level at 7½ furlongs.
The Quick Galloper’s assessment of the six in the Clovis Metcalfe is provided below.
1 - EXCESSIVE FORCE– Finally makes his 2023 entry having last raced in December 2022. Excessive Force was nominated to start in June but was declared a late non-starter. He is regularly present at morning exercise, with his back class giving him every chance of winning. May need this run to find the best in his hoofs.
2 - LABAN– Can safely be ruled out.
3 - MINIATURE MAN-Always seems to be present of late in races of this kind. We will earn again.
4 - POWER RANKING– Does not belong among these.
5 - PERFECT BREW– Slowly finding himself, moving to Open Allowance. Will have to date.
6 - ATOMICA– After a faltering start to her four-year-old, Atomica regained her mojo with a comfortable win in the Labour Day Trophy by 9 lengths over seven furlongs (1,400m) on May 23. Atomica is again provided with a clear winning opportunity.
