KINGSTON, Jamaica – After trying several times to overcome his problem of always going wide on the turn, Excessive Force finally was able to deliver when he won the Sunday nightcap impressively.
Racing at the Overnight Allowance level going 6 ½ furlongs, Excessive Force ridden by Linton Steadman for trainer Philip Feanny raced well behind the front pack led by at first Go Deh Girl (Dick Cardenas) and Unknown Soldier (Aaron Chatrie) with Steadman deliberately taking a close position on the inside rails.
Go Deh Girl gave up the gallop quickly as Unknown Soldier kept going with the likes of Raw Liquid (Roger Hewitt), One Don (Robert Halledeen), Big Big Daddy (Chris Mamdeen) lurking and ready to strike. With three furlongs to go Excessive Force was taken off the rails which got congested and taken about six or seven wide as Unknown Soldier gave up on her effort as Big Big Daddy, One Don and Lalala Bamba did their all to get the win.
But Steadman got Excessive Force in top gear as the foreigner picked up on his momentum to flash by all and sundry winning emphatically by 3 ¼ lengths.
Big Big Daddy was second and One Don third.
