KINGSTON, Jamaica – In a strong front running effort the emerging combination of apprentice Nicholas Hibbert and trainer Richard Azan prevailed in the Saturday first of 10 races after the jockey on No Identity, Anthony Thomas fell from his mount just yards away from the winning post.
This was Zabratone’s first victory from 18 attempts, which came at nine furlongs and 25 yards in a three-year-old and upwards maiden condition contest.
Drawn at one, Hibbert who was on his third winner this year sent Zabratone to the lead followed by the even money favourite SheBoom (Dick Cardenas) with No Identity third.
Zabratone held his gallop well in the stretch drive but started to falter in the final 100 yards and that was when Thomas brought No Identity with his run on the inside rails. No Identity seems to have made a bad step with Thomas hanging on resolutely before falling off just after passing the winning post. SheBoom was third.
The winning margin was a neck.
