KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jockey Dick Cardenas certainly gained his winning freedom by taking the first two races on offer thus far on the Independence Day card currently taking place at Caymanas Park.
Cardenas on Enuffisenuff trained by champion Anthony Nunes could never go with the blistering pace on the front end created by Truly Amazing (Dane Nelson), Soul Cure (Christopher Mamdeen) and Formal Fashion (Robert Halledeen).
Halledeen and Nelson were engaged in their own private battle in the Restricted Allowance contest for three-year-old and upwards non-winners of four horses racing a distance of 5 ½ furlongs.
In the straight Halledeen and Nelson were still fighting hard against each other in close quarters and when Formal Fashion was finally able to send Truly Amazing away, Cardenas who by then had Enuffisenuff rolling on all cylinders shot by to win by three-parts-of-a-length.
Formal Fashion was second with Truly Amazing third.
The winning time was a fast 1:05.3.
This was Enuffisenuff second consecutive victory in 10 days.
