KINGSTON, Jamaica - FOLLOWING Electrode’s impressive win the first time out in a Maiden Condition race on Saturday, April 8, 2023, trainer Anthony “Baba” Nunes believes he may have unearthed another talented runner.

After some exciting spins in the mornings, the connections were expecting something special from Electrode and the three-year-old chestnut colt rose to the occasion to land the native-bred three-year-old contest run in honour of Hamark Farms, over five furlongs (1000m) straight by 7¾ lengths, lengthening the advantage all the way to the wire.

“Electrode makes my job look good. We have waited on this colt for quite a while. He is a big fellow — about 17 hands — and we had to wait on him because he is so big and he is bred nicely, as anything Electrifying throws are talented, and that made it easy for me.

“All I did was just get him to a certain level, and he did all the rest. The performance was pretty good for the first time out. I mean, he is running for the first time and he is using all his natural ability here, so when he gets fitter and more mature and understands what’s going on, I think he will be a decent sprinter,” Nunes said.

It was an even start to the race for most of the runners in the 13-horse field as Electrode matched strides with Smooth Aviator (Robert Halledeen), Clowning Around (Bebeto Harvey), and Blinkin Light (Shane Richardson). As the runners made their way across the dummy rails Electrode hit top stride under jockey Linton Steadman and drew clear from the field to win easily in the end in a time of 1:00.4 (23.1 x 49.2). Blinkin Light finished second, and Answer My Prayer (Raddesh Roman) came home in third place.

Electrode is bred by Sunshine N Shadow out of the Traditional mare Electrifying.
