As the Classic races get closer and closer
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Eleven three-year-olds have been nominated to face Mr Starter in a maiden special weight contest at 6 ½ furlongs, on Saturday, February 19, 2022, at Caymanas Park.
Five first-timers are in the field, Lady Joyce, The Citadel, Stomp The Rhythm, Friendofthefamily, and One Like It. None of the aforementioned debutantes have excited the clockers in the mornings, and it can be reasonably assumed that this fivesome will all learn from this first start.
Three others, who have raced already, Lady Ben, Sarge In Charge, and Minidewak, can be ruled out as there is little or no form to recommend any of this threesome.
That leaves Blue Vinyl, Sunset Silhoutte, and El Cid.
Blue Vinyl (Bern Identity – Blufield), trained by Patrick Lynch made his debut over five furlongs straight and did well to finish fourth behind Brompton Alex, Prince Sanjay, and Asurety.
Blue Vinyl was noticed running on in the final furlong, which is an indication that this chestnut colt will be at easy going 6 ½ furlongs. Watch Blue Vinyl closely, and expect odds of about 5-2.
Sunset Silhoutte (Northern Giant – Ahwhofah), trained by Jason DaCosta has raced three times finishing second at this same distance on January 30. Then this bay filly carried 108 lb and tomorrow she will tote 117 lb, a difference of nine pounds, but with champion Anthony Thomas replacing Abigail Able in the saddle, the additional poundage might not be all that significant. Expect odds of 8-5.
In the same race on January 30, one and a half lengths behind Sunset Silhoutte was El Cid trained by champion Anthony Nunes.
El Cid (Soul Warrior – Wap), was doing his best work in that event in the final furlong, and with that experience now under his girth, this chestnut colt has every chance of winning. Plus, El Cid has slipped down in the weights by 5 lb, which now gives him a substantial handicap advantage when compared with Sunset Silhoutte.
For this three-year-old event, THE QUICK GALLOPER has chosen El Cid. Expect odds of even money, 6-5.
