KINGSTON, Jamaica - Sensational Satin (Sensational Slam – Silky Satin), trained by Byron Davis and ridden by Reyan Lewis, easily obliged as the favourite in an event named after Vireen on Saturday, September 2, 2023 at Caymanas Park.
Vireen was the first official winner of Hall of Famer Winston Griffiths's first official winner.
Going five furlongs straight in the three-year-old and upwards Optional Claiming ($250,000-$200,000) spread, Sensational Satin got off to a reasonable start and disputed the early lead with KD Rocket (Dane Dawkins).
Sensational Satin continued to tussle with KD Rocket before the six-year-old chestnut mare drew off inside the final furlong (200m) for an easy 7¼-length win in a final time of 1:02.0 (23.4 x 47.0). KD Rocket was second and JNR Jones (Anthony Allen) finished third.
