The opening event of the ten on the day’s programme attracted a field of 15 for the four-furlong straight sprint restricted to maidens above three years old.
Trained by Dalton Sirjue and partnered by Jawani Forbes, Humility (3-5), always in full control, got the form players to the perfect start with a near ten-length romp.
What appeared to be another routine Restricted Allowance event, with champion Jason DaCosta saddling three of the six declarations, including undefeated hat-trick seeking 1-5 bet US-bred The Teacha (Robert Halledeen) for race two, was anything but.
For the second time in eight days, the extremely rare phenomenon of two entries from the same stable sharing the prize money allocated for the first two to finish occurred.
The Teacha (USA), intent on winning the 7.5-furlong gallop from in front, was joined in the final stride by stablemate, Star Quest (6-1), running on from well off the pace.
This, for DaCosta to celebrate equalling the week-old feat of fellow second-generation trainer Ryan Darby, with their stable’s dead heaters in the winners’ enclosure. The promising lightweight apprentice Jahiem Anderson rode Star Quest for the first of his two successes on the day.
With 1-5 favourite The Maestro (Reyan Lewis) over 16 lengths clear at the finish of the 7.5-furlong Maiden Condition race three, this was the beginning of the best day of the fledgling career of third-generation conditioner Peter-John Parsard, with three more wins to follow.
Thirty-eight minutes later, Parsard celebrated his second with Blu Sensation (4-5), running over the seven furlongs of race four to score by just over one length for the first of a triple for champion jockey Raddesh Roman.
Race five, run at 5.5 furlongs, went to favourite Roman Princess (8-5), declared by Lennis Shim, and confirming the double success of Jaheim Anderson, who guided the five-year-old mare to a frontrunning 2.5-length margin of victory.
The Parsard showcase resumed in race six with 3-5 favourite Turnonthelight being just over one length clear at the end of the six furlongs for Roman’s second.
Co-feature, the 32nd renewal of the seven-furlong Thornbird Stakes, staged as race seven, went to Dream Catcher (5-1) with the filly displaying the requisite stamina to outstay her nearest rival by two and a half lengths.
Tevin Foster executed the riding assignment in closing the unusual two-race triple of the DaCosta’s outfit. Favourite, Taylor Made (6-5), stable companion of Dream Catcher, led but was ineffective at the distance and only finished fourth by over eight lengths.
The eighth event provided Roman with an opportunity to end another successful day with a three timer. In another confident display, the 2024-25 titlist and current leader held up Phillip Elliott’s Indestructible (10-1) for the first half of the five-furlong straight sprint, before unleashing the five-year-old progeny of Successful Native to score by just under two lengths.
For race nine, an Overnight Allowance, run over the extended nine furlongs over the circular course for the Royal Dad Trophy, Don Kwesi (1-1) was presented in an unbeatable condition by trainer Barrington Bernard and ridden by Demar Williams again. On this occasion, it was nearly six lengths of daylight ahead of his closest outstayed rival for win number six from the last nine starts.
Champion juvenile We Jammin’s performance in the co-featured 33rd staging of the Prince Consort Stakes confirmed he is the best second-season campaigner of either sex. A near seven-length virtual toying with the best of the colts and geldings available to date, conceding upwards of 7lbs over seven furlongs, has left no doubt about his prospects in the Futurities pending.
Ridden by former six-time champion Omar Walker, We Jammin closed the Parsard four-timer with the requisite authority to confirm his status.
